![]() A few years before the 25th, I moved back here from the Bay Area where I had lived for 10 years after the military and graduating from SF State. Was a journalist for 25 years at various papers, including the CJ, Cbus Dispatch and mostly for the Plain Dealer at the Statehouse bureau. Left that industry end of '06 and been freelance writing and editing for clients and magazines, and now teaching journalism at Ohio Wesleyan, ever since. Look forward to catching up with as many folks as possible. Maybe we can start planning the 75th! |

I entered Brookhaven my senior year when my family moved to Columbus from the farm country in eastern Franklin County. I found a wonderful variety of people there who, without exception, treated me very well. I have fond memories of Brookhaven and the friends I met there. After Brookhaven, I tried going to college, but I admit I was a dismal failure. In 1971, I entered the US Army, planning to go to Vietnam. Strangely, the Army said I had a talent for languages and instead, sent me to language school. I learned Russian and German and became an interpreter for the Army. I finished my enlistement and went back to college on the GI Bill to become an automotive engineer. I went to work for Ford in the Detroit area but I stayed in the Army Reserve for 25 years, finally retiring in 1996. At Ford, I worked my way up to their Scientific Research department where I retired from in 2007. Since then, my darling wife and I have been trying to spend the kids' inheritance. We have 4 kids who have scattered across the country from southeast Michigan to San Francisco, and a couple of places in between. We have 6 grandchildren that we spoil rotten, then send them back to Mom and Dad as punishment for when their parents were teenagers in our house. We have been through most of the normal challenges of life, shared happy times and sad times with family and friends, seen a lot of joy and shed a lot of tears. We've seen young lives begin and buried too many family and friends. But all in all, it has been a good life. I've made mistakes that I paid for in blood and gold, but I've done good things that still pay rewards every day. Our family always ends our conversations with "I love you" because we always want those words to be that last ones to remember. |

I have been married for 43 years, and live near Mount Vernon, Ohio. I taught high school business classes for 30 years, retiring in 2001. My wife and I started the Cameron Tree Farm 37 years ago--Christmas trees. We have 3 children and they all live in Ohio, although they all live 1 to 1.5 hours away. My wife was a college professor at Mount Vernon Nazarene University for 42 years. We are both glad to be retired.
